Coleman Dark Room Instant Cabin Tent

best 10 person tent - coleman sundome

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 14’L x 10’W x 6’7”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: Yes
  • Price: $$

Best for: Instant Set-Up & Campers who Sleep With Blackout Curtains

Coleman – a well-known name in the world of outdoor recreation – has been producing quality products for 120 years, and their 10-Person Dark Room Instant Cabin Tent is no exception. The Dark Room Instant Cabin Tent is made of Polyguard 2X double-thick fabric and includes a WeatherTec rainfly for those unexpected summertime showers.

The tent features reflective guylines, which helps eliminate nighttime tripping hazards and ensures a safe return from those midnight bathroom runs. The Instant Cabin also comes with a hinged door, offering easy entry and exit to the tent, but by only offering one door in the middle of the tent, everyone could be woken up by the first person to unzip it each morning.

One of our favorite aspects of this tent is its pre-attached poles that allow for a quick – dare we say instant – set-up. No trying to find out which support pole goes in which slot. Just open, pitch, and secure the tent. Once set-up there is also an optional divider that separates the tent into two equal-sized rooms- perfect for a little bit of privacy from your fellow campers.

The Coleman 10-Person Dark Room Instant Cabin Tent also blocks out up to 90% of all outside light, allowing you to go to bed early, sleep in past sunrise, and keep the interior temperatures down. We think this tent is a definite must-have for anyone sleeping with blackout curtains in their bedrooms who just want a good night’s sleep out in the wilderness.

PROS

  • Hinged Door
  • Instant Set-Up
  • Dark Room Technology
  • Rainfly
  • Reflective Guy Wires

cONS

  • One Entry/Exit Door
  • No Electric Cord Access

Mountain Trails Grand Pass

mountains trails 10 person tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 18’L x 10’W x 6’3”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $

Best for: Campers on a Budget

The Mountain Trails Grand Pass 10 Person Tent is the most affordable tent on our list.  However, don’t let its low price fool you! With 180 square feet of floor space, this tent also comes in as one of the largest.

Its domed ceiling does make the space seem smaller than other cabin or straight-walled options, but you can still fit 3 queen-sized blow-up mattresses in there (and have room left for sleeping bags)!

The domes structure does mean the tent is also not self-supporting and it relies on ground stakes to stay upright.  Not a problem unless you are trying to do beach camping or are on a concrete pad.

The Mountain Trails Grand Pass tent and rainfly are made of polyester and nylon and feature a fiberglass support system.

Our favorite thing about this tent is it’s almost entirely meshed roof- say hello to maximum ventilation! When sporting the rainfly, there is also a fiberglass support pole going through the fly creating a small protective awning upon entry and exit of the tent.

Two middle doors and optional room dividers can create the feel of two separate rooms under one roof. We do think it’s kind of weird that both doors open from the outside inwards, so if you want one large opening (to haul blown-up beds or large cots inside) this isn’t going to be possible, even with the double middle door.

Overall, the Mountain Trails Grand Pass 10 Person Tent provides the basics you need at a price that won’t hurt your wallet. We recommend this tent for those looking to take quick trips on a strict budget.

PROS

  • Low Cost
  • Meshed Roof
  • Lightweight Fiberglass Frame
  • Rainfly Awning

cONS

  • Not Free-standing
  • No Electric Cord Access

Coleman WeatherMaster 10

best 10 perosn tent - coleman weathermaster

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 17’L x 9’W x 6’8”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $$

Best for: Sleeping Under the Stars

Coleman once again makes our list with their WeatherMaster 10 Person Tent. Manufactured out of coated polyester, this tent sports downward-angled windows, ensuring that you can create optimum ventilation, even in the rain.

The polyester taffeta rainfly and welded floor seams help protect campers and gear from unwelcome water, and a hinged front door allows for quick and easy entry. This tent also boasts a second, zippered backdoor and two-room divider.

Similar to the Mountain Trails Grand Pass, the Coleman WeatherMaster provides an almost full-mesh ceiling allowing for ventilation and – our favorite – sleeping under the stars while staying insect-bite free.

While also having a domed ceiling and fiberglass supports, the WeatherMaster provides more interior headspace than the Grand Pass with a max dome height of almost 7 feet!

The Coleman WeatherMaster 10 Person Tent also provides electric port access, meaning you can charge your devices without carrying around extra batteries. Storage pockets give space to stow small items overnight and keep you organized.

The WeatherMaster is the perfect tent for those wanting to view the stars on clear nights, but wanting a little extra protection in case inclement weather appears on the forecast.

PROS

  • Hinged Door
  • Electric Cord Access Port
  • Angled Windows
  • Welded Floor Seams
  • Mesh Ceiling

cONS

  • Domed Roof
  • 20 min+ Set-Up

Core 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin

core 10 person straight wall tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 14’L x 10’W x 7’2”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $$

Best for: Tall Campers

The Core 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent is composed of polyurethane-coated polyester fabric and fiberglass support poles, with a durable polyethylene floor.

Similar to the previous two tents on our list, the Core 10 also sports a mesh ceiling with included rainfly, but unlike the Coleman WeatherMaster or Mountain Trail Grand Pass, the Core 10 is a straight-walled cabin with ceilings over 7 feet tall!

The Core 10 also has a unique ventilation system that includes ground-level vents, giving extra airflow when sleeping on the floor.

The Core 10 Person Cabin features storage pockets, a lantern hook, and a completely removable divider in case you don’t want the extra fabric taking up valuable tent space.

This tent also provides a water-resistant electric port for charging and running electronics which is fully closable when not in use.

While the tent’s interior space is quite large – just over 1,000 cubic feet – the dimensions of the rectangular floor only support two queen-sized blow-up mattresses. But don’t worry, this includes plenty of extra space, and 10 sleeping bags fit just fine!

Overall, we recommend the Core 10 Person Straight Wall Cabin Tent for any families or groups with above-average height campers.

With high ceilings (7’2”) and a central lantern hook that only someone over 5’6” could reach, this tent is perfect for providing a comfortable camping experience to taller individuals.

PROS

  • Tall Ceilings
  • Ground Vents
  • Storage Pockets
  • Removable Divider

cONS

  • One Entry/Exit Door
  • Fits 2 Blow-Up Mattresses

Core 11 Person Family Cabin Tent

best 10 person tent - core 11 person family tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 17’L x 12’W x 7’2”H
  • Number of Rooms: 2
  • People: Up to 11
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $$

Best for: Campers Wanting a Screen Room

Okay, yes, we cheated.  The Core 11 Person Family Cabin Tent can technically fit more than 10 people. But we guarantee that if you look at the suggested eleven-person sleeping diagram, no one is going to want to be the one person sleeping at the feet of 7 other people.

Talk about smelly! So for argument’s sake, let’s just say this tent sleeps 10.

We love the Core 11 Person Cabin because it seems to try and take everything you want in a tent, and shove it into one.  It has ground ventilation. An entire screen room (porch) area. A gear loft. Multiple wall-mounted storage pockets. Two Entry/Exit Doors. An electric cord access port. It can even fit 3 queen-sized air mattresses.

The tent’s odd shape would be our main complaint with the Core 11 Cabin. It appears as though the Core 11 is one medium-sized tent with an additional porch area attached.

The “divider” (front tent wall?) is not removable, making it seem to us like they essentially took a smaller 7-8 person tent and sewed on a mesh room to sleep 3 additional people. Fine by us, but we’re not sure how good the screen room is as far as weather protection goes.

The rainfly does cover the screen room’s ceiling, so we are hopeful the campers in the second room would stay dry and not have to squeeze into the main tent with everyone else.

Complaints aside, we still think the Core 11 Cabin offers campers everything they want and more – including space!

Coming in just under a 1,500 cubic feet interior with a 17’ x 12’ footprint, this tent is, by far, the most spacious on our list. So whether it’s a lot of people or a lot of gear, the Core 11 Person Family Cabin is the perfect tent for campers who just want more room.

PROS

  • Ground Ventilation
  • 2 Entry/Exit Doors
  • Gear Loft
  • Screen Room
  • Fits 3 Queen-Sized Mattresses

cONS

  • Odd Shape
  • Not the best in extreme rain

NTK Arizona 9-10 Person Tent

NTK Arizona 9-10 Person Tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 17’4”L x 8’W x 6’8”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $$$$

Best for: Long-Term Camping

The NTK Arizona GT 9/10 Person Tent is the only tent on our list where almost all customers agree that it is actually waterproof.

Perhaps it’s the addition of a 2500mm water column for runoff which is aided by the tent’s dome shape, or perhaps the waterproof polyester fabric and anti-fungal-silver-coated polyethylene tub floor that comprise this tent. Either way, when it comes to standing up to the elements, this tent seems to be the winner.

The NTK Arizona GT boasts fine, micro mosquito-proof mesh and has two separate doors for entry and exit.

We hate that this tent only has two additional windows (other than the doors), but suppose that if you are looking for a waterproof and element-withstanding structure, tons of mesh windows don’t make the cut.

We do love that NTK stands by their product and provides a lifetime replacement on all of their fiberglass support poles, so if one breaks you don’t have to trash the whole tent.

Also featured in the NTK Arizona Family Tent is a gear loft, lantern hook, and wall-mounted storage pocket for stowing small, lightweight items.

Withstanding the elements, backed by a limited warranty, and providing enough space to move around, we believe the NTK Arizona GT 9/10 Person Tent is best suited for either long-term camping or long-term investments.

Its price may be steep, but if you are looking for a tent to last, this is it!

PROS

  • Waterproof
  • Tub Floor
  • 2 Entry/Exit Doors
  • Gear Loft
  • Micro Mosquito Mesh

cONS

  • Dome Shape
  • Lack of Windows

Core Lighted 10 Person Instant Cabin Tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 14’L x 10’W x 7’H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $$$

Best for: Nighttime Activities

If you could rate a tent solely on how cool it was, the Core Lighted 10 Person Instant Cabin Tent would probably top the chart.

This is definitely not your father’s tent. Controlled by an actual wall-mounted light switch, this tent has interior lights with 3 different brightness settings.

Sure, it requires 4D batteries or a power pack to run, but we think this technology is just awesome! You’re no longer limited by sunlight or weather. You can play board games with your children at night, or read a book without a flashlight.

The Core Lighted Instant Cabin also utilizes pre-attached poles for a quick 2-5 minute set-up and sports a screened-in porch area where campers can go for extra fresh air without the bugs.  The rainfly doesn’t quite cover this mesh screened area, so beware if rain is in the forecast.

The Core 11 has an electric cord access port and also features ground-level ventilation that is loved by all at night and during rainstorms.

Sure the Core Lighted 10 Person Instant Cabin Tent requires you to pack a little extra in the form of batteries or a power pack, but for the benefit of being able to easily see at night, we think it’s worth it. Ditch the lanterns and get the Core Lighted Instant Tent!

PROS

  • Interior Lights
  • Quick Set-Up
  • Screen Room
  • Ground Ventilation
  • Electric Cord Access Port

cONS

  • Requires Batteries
  • Rainfly Doesn’t Cover Screen Room

Core 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent

core 12 person intant cabin tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 18’L x 10’W x 6’6”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 12
  • Instant Set-Up?: Yes
  • Price: $$$

Best for: Multi-Family Camping

We know, we cheated again. This tent can fit up to 12 people, which is more than 10.

But trust us, if you have 10 people going camping, you’re going to want this tent.

The Core 12 Person Instant Cabin Tent is the perfect tent for campers with 2 groups of people.  Say, two families, guys, and girls, whatever the split, this tent will give both groups a little privacy while still only having to buy and set-up one tent.

Here’s why: The Core 12 Instant Cabin has 2 entry doors on separate sides of the tent.  When the room divider is down, each side of the tent still has a door to get in and out without disturbing the other side.

Like other Core tents, the Core 12 is no exception. The cabin has a great ventilation system, with not only ground vents, but some of the largest windows we’ve ever seen in a tent! One half of the tent can also optionally become a screen room.

The Core 12 Person Instant Tent features pre-attached poles for a quick 2-5 minute set-up, and without a divider can fit up to 3 queen-sized blow-up mattresses. Sure, there is no electric port and this tent does weigh in at a hefty 40-pound carry weight.

We think as long as you have a car and a couple of strong people this is the ideal tent for successful multi-group camping.

PROS

  • 2 Entry/Exit Doors
  • Ground Ventilation
  • Quick Set-Up
  • Large Windows
  • Fits 3 Queen-Sized Mattresses

cONS

  • No Electric Cord Access Port
  • Heavy

Ozark Trail Dark Rest Instant Cabin

ozark trail 10 person dakr rest tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 14’L x 10’W x 6’5”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: Yes
  • Price: $$

Best for: Privacy & Storage

The Ozark Trail Dark Rest Instant Cabin makes the list for its innovative Dark Rest Technology.  The use of dark interior colors and dark privacy mesh – where you can see out, but the outside can’t see in – are key features of the Dark Rest technology.

The aim is to reduce the amount of glare and internal temperature of the tent so you can sleep longer and better than before.

We also can’t help but admire the mesh storage wall and other storage pockets inside the Ozark Trail Dark Rest Cabin.

No less than 10 storage pockets – including one water bottle holder – line the interior tent walls, helping campers stay organized and easily access frequently used items.  Not to mention this is the only tent where each camper could get their own pocket!

An electric cord access port allows devices to be run or charged when electric access is nearby, and items can easily be stored away in this tent when not being used.

The pre-attached poles allow for a speedy tent set-up in just 2-5 minutes, putting the ‘instant’ in Instant Cabin. The Ozark Trail Dark Rest Instant Cabin also features 8 windows, including skylights which can give more light inside the tent during the day.

The tent comes with a rainfly that includes vinyl coverings over the skylights so you can still get light in the tent, even during rain showers. One of our hesitations with this is that we can’t find a waterproof rating anywhere, so we aren’t sure how dry campers will stay inside.

The other hesitation we have with the Ozark Trail Dark Rest is that it is accompanied by the California dangerous chemical warning.

We aren’t sure why or if a specific piece of the tent is causing this warning to appear, but it does make us hesitate slightly before purchasing. The tent materials seem fairly common across the board, however, so we think it might be a legal ploy by the company.

It’s easy for us to say that if privacy and storage are at the top of your camping “must-haves”, look no further.  The Ozark Trail Dark Rest Instant Cabin lands in the top spot for both of these categories, and it’s the right tent for you!

PROS

  • Interior Storage
  • Dark Rest Technology
  • Quick Set-Up
  • Electric Cord Access Port
  • Skylight Windows

cONS

  • No Waterproof Rating
  • California Chemical Warning

Ozark Trail 10 Person Cabin Tent

Specifiations:

  • Tent Dimensions: 14’L x 10’W x 7’2”H
  • Number of Rooms: 1 (2 with divider)
  • People: Up to 10
  • Instant Set-Up?: No
  • Price: $

Best for: Puddle-Free Camping

The first thing you might notice about the Ozark Trail Family Cabin Tent is its similarities to the previously reviewed Core 10 Person Cabin Tent.

The two tents are made of similar materials.  They both have the same floor dimensions and 7’2” ceilings. They both have electric ports and fully removable room dividers. They both make our list of top 10 person tents, however, because of their differences.

The Ozark Trail Family Tent features a central gear loft, allowing campers to stow lightweight items high out of the way. It also has small, wall-mounted storage pockets for smaller accessories you need to access frequently.

The divider seems to be a bit more flimsy than the one in the Core 10, but considering the price difference, the cheaper Ozark Trail Tent is probably worth the money savings.

Our favorite unique feature of the Ozark Trail Family Tent, however, is it’s tub floors. Leaks be gone!

The floor seams are fully taped, factory-sealed, and sit an entire 6” above the ground.  The tub floor does leave some desire for the removed ground-level ventilation which is great for rain showers, but we think this feature is worth the sacrifice.

Say good-bye to puddles, leaky seams, and wet gear bags, the Ozark Family Cabin Tent is perfect for keeping you- and your stuff- dry through those mild summer afternoon showers.

PROS

  • Tub Floor
  • Tall Ceilings
  • Gear Loft
  • Electric Cord Access Port
  • Removable Divider

cONS

  • Lacks Ventilation During Rain
  • One Entry/Exit Door

How to Choose the Right Tent for 10 People

Below are a few factors to consider before purchasing your 10 Person Tent.

Durability & Sturdiness

When taking a tent into the outdoors, durability and sturdiness are two top priorities you should consider. What materials make up your tent? Are you expecting rain? Is your campsite going to be on the grass or on a concrete pad? Are you looking for something to last a weekend music festival or to last for years to come?

All of these are important questions to ask yourself before purchasing your 10 person tent. While most tents are made of durable camping materials, some are better than others. The question is, which combination is right for you?

Number of Rooms

Almost all of the tents on our list have a 1 or 2 room option. Quite a few have removable dividers, but some do not. Is there a certain number of rooms your group requires? Do you need 2 doors? Do you need more than 2 rooms because 3 families are camping together? A larger tent than one on our list?

It is important to establish any room requirements before purchasing a tent for group camping. Having a little bit of privacy is important to most people, but how much privacy can vary vastly.

Ease of Set-Up

It’s been an hour and a half. Your tent is still leaning over. There is no way you will get it set up before nightfall. What a nightmare this has become!

No one wants to be fighting their tent for hours on end. In recent years, most tent companies have started making set up as easy as possible. There are color-coded poles, instruction videos, and ‘easy-snap’ systems.

Quite a few tents nowadays, including 4 of the tents on our list, even have pre-attached poles and ‘instant’ set-up features. But do you need the Best 10 Person Instant Tent? Or do you just need one that you can set up in 20 minutes or less?

It’s important to explore what set-up is like for your tent and consider if you have the time (and number of people) required to set-up the tent. Knowing if it is going to take you 5 minutes, 25 minutes, or 55 minutes can make a big difference in not only your stress level but also which tent you choose.

We recommend reading customer reviews, and also putting it together yourself before the camping trip. After all, practice makes perfect – and you never know when you’re missing a part!

Additional Comfort Features

Do you want a black-out tent for easy sleeping? No-see privacy mesh? Interior lights? Extra storage pockets? A lantern hook or electric cord access port?

The additional comforts added to tents in recent years has become a never-ending list. It’s important to determine which features are most important to you and your camping group in order to narrow down your tent options. While it’s possible not everyone will get a tent with everything they want, it is possible to bring a lot of the comforts of home with you in the wilderness!

Price

10 person tents are not a cheap piece of camping equipment. Ranging from under $100 to over $400 it can seem daunting trying to choose the large tent that is not only right for you and your group but also right for your wallet.

We recommend doing your research, setting a reasonable budget, and saving up for your purchase. This is a group tent, so if multiple people or families are involved, we’d also suggest asking them to chip in or split the price. Just remember that shared purchasing generally means shared ownership and shared access!

Final Thoughts

Whether it’s with your family or friends, group camping can be a rewarding experience where memories are made. Don’t let preparations and sleeping arrangements stress you out! Trust us- we’re experts!

We guarantee that the best 10 person tent for your adventure is somewhere on this list. So grab a tent, grab 9 or fewer other people, and head out into the wild!
